Mercedes-Benz Academy Kecskemét training centre handed over

The inaugural ceremony of the new training centre of the Mercedes-Benz plant in Kecskemét erected in hardly a year has recently taken place. The 8000 m2 Mercedes-Benz Academy Kecskemét is located next to Csillag Crèche and Kindergarten on the premises of the car plant. The majority, 6000 m2 of the building is occupied by a training hall equipped with state-of-the-art technology. The building also includes offices, training rooms, and a multifunctional space accommodating audiences of up to 120, which is also available to trainees and students.

The modern training hall of Mercedes-Benz Academy Kecskemét is going to house mainly the practical sessions, and occasional project work of dual education participants. The training rooms will also serve as a venue for internal training events including training for office work or jobs on the assembly line. Recruitment, worker selection as well as skilling of new recruits for the assembly line will also take place here. Additionally, further training of the current workforce will also be provided at the training centre.

The Kecskemét plant has played a pioneering role in introducing dual education in Hungary: the success of the program – operating since 2011 – is demonstrated by applications for both dual vocational training, and dual college training far exceeding available places year on year. The number of courses offered under the program increases continuously. In providing its dual training, the company closely cooperates with the Kecskemét Neumann János University and several vocational schools including Kandó Kálmán Vocational Grammar School and Vocational Secondary School, and Gáspár András Vocational Grammar School and Vocational Secondary School, and Szent Benedek Grammar School and Vocational Training School.

The millionth car is completed

The 1.000.000th compact car, proud to be known as „Made in Kecskemét” rolled off the assembly line. The order for the beautiful white AMG-line car was placed at an Italian dealership and the car traveled all the way from Bács-Kiskun County to its new owner in Toscana. At the same time with this production milestone the model Mercedes-Benz CLA won the long-term reliability certification prize by J.D. Power 2018 Germany VDS in the middle category passenger cars. In the history of the prize it was the first time that a car manufactured in Hungary got acknowledged by German customers as the most reliable on the long term. J.D. Power was established in 1968 in California and it became renowned from the 1970s by their independent car trade analyses and customer review evaluations. The key to our success is the top quality that our colleagues at the Mercedes-Benz plant achieve in Kecskemét and it makes our products always worthy of our customers’ trust.

A donation tree built from firewood at the Mercedes-Benz plant

"The special Christmas tree that the Mercedes-Benz plant had ordered from Hello Wood was dressed in beautiful lights as it stood on the pathway leading up to the plant. The festive installation, built from 20 tons of firewood, with its height of 11 meters and a diameter of 5,6 meters is a captivating play of lights from the outside and all quiet coziness inside.
The donation tree made from firewood will make a very good use for local families: the plant will make sure the wood gets delivered to families in need before the holiday, so they can spend the most beautiful evening of the winter in nice warmth. Managing director Mr. Christian Wolff and the management team presented employees and guests coming to the plant on the 6th of December with chocolate Santa Claus figures, a total of 6,500 chocolate Santa Clauses were distributed at the plant that day."

Growing a mustache for prevention

The Mercedes-Benz plant organized a month in the spirit of health: colleagues of the company – male and female – participated in various screening tests, free of charge, on a medical bus on the site of the plant for the purpose of prevention of certain illnesses that are widespread in the population of Hungary. Like in the previous years, doctors in the medical bus carried out urology and lung tests and also screening for prostate, cervical, ovary, intestine and skin cancer. 824 employees took part in the screening examinations. A number of the male employees’ community joined the “Save the Man” Movement (=No-Shave November) and grew mustaches, calling awareness for the importance of prostate cancer prevention. Female workers wore badges with a mustache. The Save the Man Movement gave the title “Institute Supporting Men Health” to the car manufacturing factory. The owner of the nicest mustache was Attila Gál, who has the rank of “Mustache King” for a year. The company offered a HUF 1,5 million donation for the Save the Man Movement for further prevention campaign in the future.

Foremen of the Mercedes-Benz plant received their diplomas

The first graduate students of the industrial foremen training program, which is unique in Hungary, received their diplomas in Kecskemét. The gap-filling program is special because it created a training category that did not exist before in Hungary. The training organized together with the German-Hungarian Chamber of Industry – as a closure of the first cycle – ended with fifteen experts of the Mercedes-Benz plant passing their exams and receiving their German-Hungarian diplomas that certify their qualification. In the course of the five-year training project, a total of 180 experts from various factory parts of the Mercedes-Benz plant can take part in training in several groups each year. This program contributes to highly educated and prepared foremen working in every area of production, and allows them to be able to do faster and more effective problem-solving. With the help of the training, participants receive theoretic knowledge that they can use in practice very well and help them in their everyday work, but the experience gained in the course helps them expand their manager’s skills as well to a great extent.
