Tree-planting on the factory site

On the road to the factory employees planted 900 trees in the spirit of environmental protection and the love of nature. Each tree represents a child born in the workers’ families over the past five years since the plant began its operation. Mercedes-Benz Manufacturing Hungary Kft. launched a number of initiatives aiming at important social causes in the past five years, carried out in the “green” spirit. The “Green Factory Program” of the company trees and bushes were planted on several occasions already. When building the factory, more than 3,000 maple and ash trees were planted on the site. At the end of the year, 2015 more than 1,500 thuyas began a new life on the northern logistics area of the assembly and at the kindergarten. In the year 2016 600 special Chinese emperor’s trees were planted all along the test route. These trees are special because they grow very fast and they can set the floating dust and carbon-dioxide emitted by cars.

The Mercedes-Benz plant builds an educational center

The construction of an 800 square meter educational center was commenced in Kecskemét, primarily for the high school and academic students taking part in the dual training program. Minister for National Economy Mr. Mihály Varga and Mayoress of Kecskemét, Mrs. Klaudia Pataki Szemereyné attended the ceremonious laying of the foundation stone. The Mercedes-Benz Academy Kecskemét will provide dual training student with educational spaces and the most modern teaching instruments after September 2018. 176 high school students began their studies in trade dual training and 40 college students at a higher educational level in September.

Ice-cream Day in the heat

Seven thousand ice-creams were given to employees at the Mercedes-Benz plant so they can cool down a little in the sizzling summer heat. Introducing the ice-cream day was Managing Director Mr. Christian Wolff’s idea, he established the tradition earlier at the AMG factory. This is not the first act to protect against the heat. Since the beginning of the summer, a bottle of mineral water is given to employees when they start their shift and shades are fixed above the designated smoking areas. The most important thing though is that a temperature-controlling system was installed in the assembly this summer, so workers on the production line no longer have to suffer from the heat.

The Mercedes-Benz plant organized the running race for the 7th time

This year was the 7th time the Mercedes-Benz plant organized the running race, which now traditionally promotes a healthy lifestyle, sports, and togetherness. The plant donated HUF 500 after every participant to the race to the Foundation “Together for Children living with Cancer”. Due to the high number of participants, the company finally doubled the amount raised for the cause and donated HUF 1.213,000.

Mercedes-Benz in Hungary had a record year in 2016

"Mercedes-Benz Manufacturing Hungary Kft. had an outstandingly successful previous year, with the production of as many as 190,000 cars in Kecskemét, which is a 3,8% increase compared to the figure from the year before. The income of the company with the surplus above EUR 3,4 billion exceeds the rate in the year 2015. As an employer and company, the corporation paid taxes and duties in the value of EUR 24 million to the Hungarian state and the local government of Kecskemét.

In 2016 the management made decisions about several important investments as well, including the expansion of the present plant and the construction of a new, second factory, too. Thanks to the EUR 580 million investment the new, modern body shop hall will be ready in 2018. With the construction of the second plant, Mercedes-Benz will create 2500 new jobs in Hungary. Mercedes-Benz Hungary Kft. achieved a very successful year as well in 2016 with its turnover of nearly HUF 80 billion it saw an increase of 30% in comparison to the year 2015."

The Mercedes-Benz plant in Kecskemét donated fire extinguishing equipment in HUF 8 million value

Since it began operating, the Mercedes-Benz plant in Kecskemét has been supporting initiatives that take part in socially important matters, so it has been providing funds for the organization for catastrophe protection for several years. The company has raised an amount of more than HUF 8 million to purchase equipment as a donation for the Firefighters’ Association of Bács-Kiskun County. The donation from the Establishment Fire Brigade of the plant, in addition to the purchased equipment, will also provide complete individual protection sets for thirty firefighters. Managing Director for Technical Matters of Mercedes-Benz Manufacturing Hungary Kft. Mr. Tamás Kovács presented the donation to András Kristóf, President of the Firefighters’ Association of Bács-Kiskun County.

The Mercedes-Benz plant in Kecskemét introduced four trades to girls considering career choices before graduation

"There was huge interest in the Girls’ Day program organized by the Mercedes-Benz plant in Kecskemét. The girls taking part in the program could learn about four trades in an entertaining and fun way:
• Car body preparation and coating technician
• Car mechatronics technician
• Mechatronics maintenance
• Toolmaking
The Mercedes-Benz plant is determined to increase the number of female colleagues on the staff. Not only the highest standard technology but also well trained and motivated female colleagues are indispensable to the company’s success.

Mercedes-Benz Manufacturing Hungary Kft. decided to launch the dual training program five years ago, and since that time it has been collaborating with the Kálmán Kandó Kecskemét Trade Training Center and the András Gáspár Vocational Secondary School and Technical High School."

The Mercedes-Benz plant in Kecskemét welcomed the 50,000th visitor

There is huge interest in factory tours, the plant welcomed its 50,000th visitor, Mr. József Szolda. When taking part in a tour, visitors can live through how Mercedes-Benz cars are manufactured by means of the most modern technology. They can learn about the production processes of not only the B-Class but of the CLA and CLA Shooting Brake models, which are made only and exclusively in Kecskemét. Plant tours include visiting the press shop, the body shop and the assembly as well. Those interested can register for a tour in Hungarian, English, and German languages as well.

3000 Mercedes-Benz colleagues, guests and their families cheered for the team at the DTM Run in 2016

More than 3,000 fans cheered on 25th September at the German tour car championship, known as DTM, for the Mercedes-Benz team members next to the Hungaroring field in Mogyoród, Hungary. The Mercedes-Benz plant in Kecskemét provided the possibility to be there to get an unforgettable experience for as many as 900 of its employees, their family members, and friends. Managing director of Mercedes-Benz Manufacturing Hungary Kft. Mr. Christian Wolff remembers the event with these words: “I never before had a chance to live through an event so enchanting, so full of team spirit and the sense of togetherness, despite the fact that I took part in team building programs in many places all over Europe. The community of the Mercedes-Benz plant created a wonderful atmosphere on the terraces and ardently encouraged the Mercedes racers.”

Introduction of cars from the future in Kecskemét

The center of Kecskemét turned into a very exciting scene again as the location of programs on the European Mobility Week and Car-free Day. The solutions from the future were represented by one of the world’s best known electric cars the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Electric Drive, whose value is double of the present Forma-1 Safety Car. In addition to the SLS AMG Electric Drive, the Smart Fortwo Electric Drive model and the electric B-Class were also there at the event. A few of these cars have been used as “green taxis” on the site of the plant for over a year. For kindergarten children and pupils, the Mercedes-Benz plant organized traffic safety events with the help of the MobileKids (MoKi) program. Children could meet the program logo figure MoKi and solved playful tests and quizzes related to traffic safety for smaller gifts.
