Car-free day in Kecskemét

Hungary has been organizing the European Mobility Week and Car-free Day for fifteen years from 16th to 22nd in September. This year people could visit events and presentations of more than 30 trade and civic organizations on Kossuth Square, Kecskemét. Experts from the Mercedes-Benz plant in Kecskemét presented the working principle of cars from the future, three models were even brought to Kecskemét: the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Electric Drive, the Smart Fortwo Electric Drive and one of the electric B-Classes that have been used as “green taxis” on the site of the plant for over a year. The plant will bring the MobileKids program to the event this year again, which is to help prepare children for safe traffic and transportation.

Mercedes-Benz will build a second plant in Kecskemét

Mercedes-Benz will build its second plant in Kecskemét, where the production of both front- and rear-wheel-drive layout cars as well as of alternative powered models will be possible in the spirit of Industry 4.0. Mercedes-Benz Manufacturing Hungary Kft. will create 2500 new jobs at the new plant, a lot more in the suppliers’ line and in factories working in Germany. “In the next few years, we are planning an EUR 1 billion investment on our factory site in Kecskemét. As a result of the investment a very effective, state-of-the-art production facility will be established with the newest technology, where within the flexible production system cars of various engineering architecture and power option models will roll off the assembly line. Thus our production capacity will increase and we can react to market demands in a flexible and fast manner” - said Member of the Divisional Board responsible for the production and supply line of Mercedes-Benz Cars, Mr. Markus Schäfer.

The production of the face-lifted versions of Mercedes-Benz CLA and CLA Shooting Brake was commenced in Kecskemét

The Mercedes-Benz CLA and CLA Shooting Brake cars are made in Kecskemét for every market in the world. The new bumper, the black diamond-pattern cooling grill that is part of the standard equipment and the new light-metal hubcaps further strengthen the sporty and expressive appearance of the face-lifted CLA and CLA Shooting Brake models. The interior got enriched by a number of new details and elements, such as the new seat covers and decorative items as well as the chromed control panel parts. The state-of-the-art LED lights, Hands-Free Access (opening up the trunk without having to use the hands) and the extended usage possibilities of smartphones increase safety and comfort to a great extent. The CLA 180 d Blue EFFICIENCY Edition with its 80kW (109 horsepower) performance and 89 g/km CO2 emission rate is the new champion of effectiveness. The CLA 45 4MATIC AMG coupé and the Shooting Brake models became even more dynamic in their appearance and the space inside them provides high-quality sensation: with the maximum performance of 280kW (381 horsepower) and 475 Nm torque, these models are among the top-of-the-line cars in their category.

Professor Zimbardo visited Kecskemét

World-famous social psychology professor Dr. Philip Zimbardo, who is also the co-founder of the initiative “Heroes’ Square”, gave a lecture to the employees of the Mercedes-Benz plant in Kecskemét. The initiative “Heroes’ Square” launched from San Francisco with the objective of getting more and more people do more and more often for others, emphasizing the need for everyday heroism. The Mercedes-Benz plant, as one of the largest companies in Hungary, has been, since the very beginning, supporting local and regional initiatives that make value and inspire people to lead a healthy lifestyle. The team of nearly 4000 people in Kecskemét established active volunteering relationships with organizations and institutes that serve public purposes. Director of human resources of the Mercedes-Benz plant Mr. László Ács pointed it out that they wish to form an employees’ community whose members actively participate in taking care of each others’ needs and providing support for others.

Mercedes-Benz Manufacturing Hungary Kft. achieved a record production result in the year 2015

With more than 180,000 cars produced in the year 2015 Mercedes-Benz plant in Kecskemét achieved an increase of 20% in the production, which is certainly a record result. The net income reached a record amount of approx. EUR 3,4 billion, which is a 0,6 billion increase compared to the income of EUR 2,8 billion from the previous year. The plant in Kecskemét is a significant pillar in the flexible and effective production network of compact cars. Cars that are manufactured here are shipped to every country in the world and this is clearly shown in the business result of the year 2015. Mercedes-Benz will invest the result of over EUR 65 million reached in the year 2015 back in the development of the plant in Kecskemét.

A unique apartment rental program was launched in Kecskemét

The Mercedes-Benz plant provided forty apartments for its employees that they can rent for a discounted fee. The company launched the unique apartment rental program working together with the city of Kecskemét and KIK-FOR Kft. The innovative model was established also as a means of motivation for employees. The prototype of the dual higher education system came into being at the Mercedes-Benz plant, along with the apartment rental program the company wishes to be a path-breaker in this respect as well.

Employees of the Mercedes-Benz plant picked garbage this year, too

Employees of the Mercedes-Benz plant took part in the “PickItUp” - Volunteers for a Cleaner Hungary campaign this year again. Upon the initiative of factory employees, more than eighty volunteers collected 300 bags of garbage and 60 cubic meters of waste stored in containers in the Homokbánya district of Kecskemét, where the apartment rentals for plant workers are located as well.

Further innovation at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Kecskemét

"Mercedes-Benz Manufacturing Hungary Kft. will produce new generation compact cars as well. Daimler AG will invest HUF 185 billion until 2018 in the development of technology and the expansion of its production capacity. In addition to the construction of a new body shop, new effective and innovative equipment will also be installed at the plant.
The Kecskemét plant is already a significant pillar in the production network of compact cars, the development will further strengthen its role. Minister of Foreign Economy and Affairs Mr. Péter Szijjártó, Mayoress of Kecskemét Mrs. Klaudia Pataki Szemereyné and leading representatives of Mercedes-Benz attended the event of the ceremonious laying of the new body shop foundation stone on April 29th, 2016."

As from this year, children can attend the Mercedes-Benz School and take part in the two-language education

The Mercedes-Benz School was established in 2009 with the joint collaboration of the General Cultural Center of German Citizens living in Hungary, the city of Kecskemét and Daimler AG. The school follows the curriculum valid in Baden-Württemberg and children receive a certificate equal to a certificate issued in Germany. From the school year 2015/16 the school is open to Hungarian children as well. Teaching takes place in both German and Hungarian with the joint work of two teachers, every class is taught with a Hungarian teacher being there with the German pedagogue to deal with the children. In order to make sure that the teaching is really effective, the school launches small classes in very well equipped rooms. In the first class 4 German and 6 Hungarian pupils learn together. The school is planning to provide the possibility of giving a Hungarian and a German general certificate of education in the future.

The first dual college students received their diplomas

A huge milestone in the life of the Mercedes-Benz plant was the planning of the dual training system and introducing it to the college a few years ago. The plant is pleased to welcome the former first-grade students taking part in the training now as qualified engineers. In 2012 the Mercedes-Benz plant, working together with Knorr Bremse and the Kecskemét College, was the first in Hungary to introduce the dual training in higher education, as a major of vehicle engineering. The success of the dual training is well represented by the fact that since the school year 2016/2017 dual training majors are available for students to choose at every university and college of the country.
