Mercedes-Benz in Hungary celebrates an important production milestone

500,000 cars have been produced since the opening on March 29, 2012, at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Kecskemét. The plant in Hungary contributes to a great extent to the growth of the compact car segment. The models CLA and CLA Shooting Brake are made exclusively in Kecskemét for all the markets of the world. The 500,000th car made in in Kecskemét is a cosmos black Mercedes-Benz CLA, whose owner is a Hungarian customer.

The Mercedes-Benz plant in Kecskemét launches an apartment rental program for its employees

The Mercedes-Benz Manufacturing Hungary Kft. provides its employees with accommodation available at very reduced prices in 40 recently renovated apartment rentals in Kecskemét. The plant aimed at providing accommodation means for its employee with conditions and prices more favorable than on the market. Thus the location of the forty apartments was carefully selected from a number of possibilities around the city. The rentals are available for both physical and administration workers and are situated in the Homokbánya part of Kecskemét, in Téglás Street. Thanks to the support of the Mercedes-Benz plant in Kecskemét employees now can rent 34 smaller apartments of 43 square meter, and 6 larger flats of 51 square meter. The apartments are fully equipped and are with central heating and a built-in kitchen. The parking lots in front of the house are also available for rent.

Two Hungarian managing directors in the management of the Mercedes-Benz plant in Kecskemét

The management of the Mercedes-Benz plant in Kecskemét was expanded with another Hungarian member: Tamás Kovács was appointed to be the managing director of technical matters at the Mercedes-Benz Manufacturing Hungary Kft. Tamás Kovács is the second Hungarian expert who had the honor to join the body of the five leading managers of the plant in Kecskemét. The other Hungarian managing director of the Mercedes-Benz plant in Kecskemét is HR director László Ács, who has been the managing director responsible for human resource matters for several years.

An EUR 15 million investment for an innovative logistic concept

The Kecskemét plant of Mercedes-Benz, being a pioneer plant of Mercedes-Benz Cars, introduced an innovation that is trail-brazing within the concern as well, entitled “goods basket concept”. For the realization of this, the company executed an investment in the value of nearly EUR 15 million, in the course of which the size of the logistic hall is to be increased. In the light of Industry 4.0 and production digitalization, the car components will now be delivered to the production line by automated robot carriers of baskets with the parts at the right moment and in the necessary quantities. As a result, there is no longer need for car part storing frames used earlier in production areas. Spaces that are now free can be used to create ergonomic resting zones for workers.

Girls are recruited for the dual training program by the Mercedes-Benz plant

The company promotes car industry trades for girls considering career choices on the open day entitled “Girls’ Day”. The Mercedes-Benz plant in Kecskemét helps involving trade school and high school students into the industry in a number of ways. One of these is the participation in the dual training system, which has been successfully operating since 2011. Girls could get an insight into the secrets of four trade fields on the open day: they painted an engine hood in the car body preparation unit and folded an aluminium heart in the toolmaking shop.

More than a thousand men grew mustaches at the Mercedes-Benz plant

Health consciousness has a very important role in the corporate culture of Mercedes-Benz Manufacturing Hungary Kft., which is expressed by supporting a movement for the awareness of prostate cancer screening. During the period of the prevention campaign the number of colleagues wearing mustaches increased by more than a thousand, female colleagues could express their support by wearing badges showing mustaches, thus calling the attention to the importance of cancer screening. The car manufacturing plant in Kecskemét supported the goals of the Movember Hungary Movement with a donation of EUR 5,000 after the campaign in November.

The nursery school and kindergarten of the Mercedes-Benz plant was opened

The “Star” Nursery School and Kindergarten established for Mercedes-Benz plant employees’ children, by way of funding HUF 250 million from the Széchenyi 2010 Program and the same amount of the company’s own investment, was opened for operation. Mercedes-Benz Manufacturing Hungary Kft. is devoted to continuously improving the life and work conditions of its employees and this is the reason why it decided to establish the facility, which has the capacity to receive almost 70 children. This project, which makes the life of employees with families easier and better is outstanding in Hungary today and could certainly be an example to follow.

The MegaLux Team got the 7th place

Mr. Thomas Geier, director of the Mercedes-Benz plant in Kecskemét that sponsors the MegaLux Team, wished the team lots of success at the press conference of the team. The world race leaving from the town of Darwin provided an opportunity for the most talented young students of engineering to show the kind of sustainable solutions they have to contribute to the car industry of the future. At the center of the race was energy saving, as the cars had to cover the entire 3000km road distance by the use of solar energy alone. From among 47 teams of 25 countries the MegaLux team – being the first participant from Hungary – pulled to the starting line and, thanks to the amazing job they did, came in seventh.

The Night of Museums – The gates of the Mercedes-Benz plant were open

The 250 guests who could enter the plant in Kecskemét on the Night of Museums were brought from the center of the city by buses. In spite of the fact that it was not a conventional plant visit to also cover production areas, many people were interested in the event. Guest could travel around the plant site by bus and then entered the central administration building to see the exhibited models and watch the Mercedes-Benz movies.

Poster drawing competition in Kecskemét

"A poster drawing competition was announced in Kecskemét with the title “Safety on the way to School” by Mercedes-Benz Manufacturing Hungary Kft. and the Institute for Transport Research.
The objective of the competition was for elementary school pupils in Kecskemét to create posters about the importance of safe traffic in A3 Size, by any chosen technique. 141 works were received by the end of the contest period. The evaluating committee was considering aspects of how the posters reflected what the pupils learned, if they were capable of drawing the viewers’ attention and creative, or whether the pupils worked in teams when making them."
